Dog Training & Behaviour

Tailored dog behaviour consultations in Aylesbury, exploring why your dog may be feeling fear or anxiety and supporting them into feeling more confident and relaxed using modern science-based training and gentle guidance.

Dog Behaviour Consultations

As an ISCP Level 5 Canine Behaviour Practitioner, my consultations are perfect for dogs that may have developed behavioural issues brought on by feeling fearful or anxious. Maybe you have a new rescue dog who is struggling to fit into your family environment, or you have a dog that is worried about the presence of other dogs and barks or lunges when other dogs pass by.

During your consultation we will jointly explore the reasons why your dog may be feeling the way they do and then create a tailored plan to support your dog, allowing them to feel more confident and relaxed. This delivers a kind and ethical approach to fulfilling a dog's individual needs.

Dog Behaviour Trainer Aylesbury

Support & Training for Anxious Dogs

Some examples of reasons why your dog would benefit from seeing a behaviourist may include:

  • Your dog fears other dogs or people.
  • Your dog experiences general anxiety and worry.
  • Your dog barks or lunges at other dogs, people or objects.
  • Your dog dislikes tasks such as nail clipping, grooming or when a harness or muzzle is used.

We provide a supportive bridge between a dog and its owner, through listening and providing science-based advice and guidance.

Your Dog Behaviour Consultation

Initial contact will be via a telephone conversation, after which I will send you a behavioural assessment form to complete. Once completed we will arrange to meet for a one-to-one session which lasts about 2 hours. The cost of this first session is £90.00. You will then receive a comprehensive personal report detailing what we have discussed so you have a written plan to refer to.

Further individual sessions are charged at £50.00 an hour. I also offer a discount of 10% for block bookings of 4 sessions (£45.00 each) or a 20% when booking 8 sessions (£40.00 each), payable in advance.

Why use a Dog Trainer or Behaviourist?

There are a variety of reasons why a dog guardian may decide to seek the professional advice of a trainer/canine behaviour practitioner. From wanting to give a new puppy the best start in life through to building confidence and life skills. You may want guidance or support with loose lead walking, recall, basic manners, anxiety or fearfulness around strangers and dogs.

Whatever the need, the role of a trainer/canine behaviour practitioner is to provide a supportive bridge between the dog and their owner, listening and providing science-based advice and guidance. We do however have to bear in mind that every dog is unique, with their own personality, inherited traits and breed-specific needs that we cannot always modify or change.

Giving a dog choices, time, respect and allowing them to consent to care, whilst providing evidence-based gentle guidance is the most effective way forward. By providing all the above, together with appropriate play outlets we can make massive positive changes, not only to the life of the dog we are working with, but also to the guardians caring for them.

The behaviours we observe in our dogs are a symptom or reaction of how our dog is feeling. This may be pain-related, anxiety, fear-related or sometimes created by a physical disease or illness. Once we can understand what is causing the behaviour we can then start to look at working through how best we can support a dog to feel more confident and secure.

Many dogs exhibiting behavioural issues have been proven to have an underlying pain or discomfort issue somewhere in their body. They may also be experiencing an underlying disease creating other issues. Blood tests and a full body check may well reveal an underlying health condition. For this reason, it is ideal if all guardians could please have their dog checked over by a vet prior to a behavioural consultation.

We must also be mindful that behaviour is just a dog attempting to meet their own needs in an environment that may feel scary or strange. A consultation can explore the reasons why your dog may be feeling this way and gives you a kind, ethical and tailored plan you can use to support them.

Please note: I do not currently deal with any separation anxiety issues within dogs, or cases of dog to human aggression.
